Don't let winter steal your glow!
It's a complaint I hear all too often in the winter months. "My skin is soooooo dry!" Perhaps you are feeling this way. There's nothing we can do about stopping this cold, dry weather but we can stop it's effects on our skin. Try some of the tips below to bring that glow back.
- Skip that super hot shower
Yes, it feels amazing on these freezing cold days but that extra hot shower isn't doing your skin any favors. Hot water actually strips the oils off your skin. Try a shorter shower with warm water instead
- Rethink your soap choice
Harsh soaps containing the following alcohols may be too drying (ethyl alcohol, denatured alcohol, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, SD alcohol, and benzyl alcohol). Also beware of overly perfumed soaps. Fragrances can by drying and irritating. Many soaps are too alkaline for our skin and can strip the skins natural acid mantle. A ph neutral cleanser will be the best for skin.
- Drink up!
Are you drinking enough water throughout the day? Taking in sufficient water through the day helps us stay hydrated from the inside out. Drink up, your skin will thank you!
- Use a humidifier
When the cold winter hits we crank up the heat. This action sucks moisture out of the air. Replenish the moisture when your skin needs it most, at night. Our skin does all of it's repairing at night while we sleep. Take advantage of these hours to help hydrate and nourish your skin.
- Step up your skincare routine
This is the perfect time of year to boost your exfoliation. Exfoliation removes the dry, flat, lifeless skin cells and reveals the fresh, plump, glowing new skin cells. Dry dead skin cannot hold on to moisture like the new skin cells can. When our skin is freshly exfoliated it is primed and ready to take in all those moisturizing ingredients! Also make sure to be using a moisturizer that is best for your skin type and condition.
